BMQ-167 Skeeter (08e88fbf-67f6-579a-9e6f-d539f703e79d)
The BQM‑167 Skeeter is a sub‑scale, jet‑powered aerial target developed by Composite Engineering Inc., now part of Kratos Defense & Security Solutions. Fielded by the United States Air Force (and a few allied services), the drone provides a realistic, high‑speed (up to 1 100 km/h) surrogate for testing air‑to‑air and surface‑to‑air weapons, radar, infrared and electronic‑countermeasure systems. Launched from a rail with rocket‑assist and recovered by parachute, the carbon‑fiber airframe supports multiple IR/RF tow‑targets and chaff/flare dispensers, enabling repeatable live‑fire and sensor‑validation missions. With a service ceiling of 15 000 m and a unit cost of roughly US 570 k, the Skeeter replaces older MQM‑107 targets and serves as the baseline platform for the armed UTAP‑22 Mako evolution.
