Shahed 197 (79b03262-2be2-55a8-86a5-481785f97b5d)

The Shahed‑197 is an Iranian‑manufactured, wing‑type UAV (Class I: small) built by the Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Company (HESA). Powered by a micro‑turbojet, it can remain aloft for up to 20 hours, cruise at roughly 200 km/h and has a 7‑metre wingspan. Its payload capacity of several dozen kilograms enables it to ferry light weapons—such as pistols, small‑arms ammunition or lightweight missiles—over combat ranges reported at 2,000 km. The platform is a reverse‑engineered derivative of the captured US RQ‑170, belonging to the Shahed‑161 family of flying‑wing drones. In 2021 the Shahed‑197 was intercepted and shot down by Israeli F‑35I Adir jets while attempting to deliver weaponry to Gaza, underscoring its role as a long‑range, weapon‑delivery UAV in Iran’s regional proxy‑support strategy.
